Non Profits and Charities

Why should I care about Charity for Debt:
Many non profits and charities have a hard problem attracting and retaining reliable volunteers to help with their day to day operations and mission. Charity For Debt aims to supply a steady stream of volunteer labor that is consistent, well trained in your operations, and documents their positive activities in a public forum on a routine basis. You should care because other non profits will be partnering with us and getting free labor from smart, motivated, and reliable volunteers.

What type of non profits are we looking for:
We are looking for non profits that having exciting and worth while volunteer opportunities. We initially want to work with non profits that focus on children, the elderly, animals, and the environment. That is a pretty wide reaching range. If you aren't in one of those segments and think we should consider partnering with you, then write us and tell us why so we can consider your request.

What is required of a partner non profit:
We take our partnerships seriously. We will help you provide training to our volunteers so they are ready when they show up at your door. We then expect our partners to give volunteers meaningful activities to complete and respect our volunteers for their time. We also will require our non profit partners to grade our volunteers on their efforts each week so we can evaluate their status in the program.

The acutal process:
  • We work with each non profit to determine the overall needs of the organization. We encourage our non profits to think of our student volunteers, not as volunteers, but almost as temporary staff. Our student volunteers are well educated, intelligent, and motivated. So, we work with our partners to find operational needs in addtion to standard volunteer activities.
  • We then have each student fill out an in depth resume or skills assessment sheet. This may include a background check if required by the non profit. The skills assessment sheet will help match experience and skills with areas of need at the non profit.
  • Our volunteer coordinators then discuss the operational needs of the non profit with the student volunteer and determine the level of interest of each activity. The volunteer coordinator picks the tasks and activities.
  • The non profit and student volunteer sign off on a common work agreement document that states the purpose, goals, management protocol, reporting, and how to get help if needed.
  • The donor is notified of this agreement and can add comments if necessary.
  • The work then begins and the student volunteer tracks all progress and goals met within his/her online volunteer portfolio.

How to partner with us:
You will need to email us (charityfordebt@gmail.com) about your non profit and volunteer activity needs so we can contact you and dicuss a partnership over the phone. Right now we are only taking applicants from the DC, Okc, and Dallas areas. We are excited to work with many impactful non profits, but we will limit the number of non profits we work with to ensure and establish high quality programs and outcomes.

Other benefits to non profits you should know about:
We are also creating a forum for our partnering non profits to collaborate on the best way to manage and motivate our volunteers. We will hold monthly meetings and have online tools for you to share your experiences and recommendations with other participating non profits. We hope the site becomes a hub for ideas and improves the effeciency of all the non profits in the communities we serve.
