Show Me the Model:
Overall:
Both founders are former Internet and sales entrepreneurs. The knowledge and strengths of technology tools and business principles will be applied to every aspect of the Charity for Debt operation. The ideal technology tools will be combined to create a transparent, sharable, and easy to use online environment. Each volunteer will leave the program with an online volunteer portfolio which demonstrates the positive outcomes the volunteer accomplished. The portfolio pages will be branded with the sponsoring donor's name or company name who brought the positive outcomes to life.
Each volunteer will be able to upload photos of their experience with their cell phone and we are working with a video hardware company to supply our volunteers with small video cameras as well. Each volunteer will describe their goals before the program starts, analyze the issues of the non profit they intend to solve, and then document their observations, milestones met, and create a concluding summary of their achievements and recommendations.
The non profit and donor can provide reflective comments and advice during any part of the process to help guide the volunteer. The non profit and donor can select various email alert functions to pull in updates on their terms.
Steps we envision in the process:
- 1. Match the skills of the volunteer to a needed area within a non profit
- 2. Agree on the amount of hours and when, where work will be done
- 3. Non profit states the purpose and goals of the agreed upon period of time
- 4. Non profit outlines any specific activities and assigns an advisor if help is needed
- 5. The volunteer reflects on the overall purpose and goals of the project
- 6. The volunteer adds personal goals and creates an overall project summary
- 7. This summary is sent to the donor via email, the donor can add comments or leave blank
- 8. The volunteer begins working
- 9. The volunteer snaps a photo via cell phone, sending to Day 1 project page
- 10. The volunteer signs into the project website and describes the photo and also writes a couple paragraphs on the activities of the day and any general observations
- 11. This Day 1 page of the project is sent to the non profit advisor and donor for comments, if necessary
- 12. A project timeline tracker shows how many days are left in the agreed period of time and shows how much money has been earned for student loan debt
- 13. This process continues until the period of time is complete, usually up to $1,000
- 14. The volunteer writes a one page report describing the goals they met, personal reflections, and recommendations to the non profit on how they could improve in the future
- 15. The non profit and donor can comment at this point, and both have to sign off and check a box acknowledging the project is complete
- 16. The volunteer is sent an online completion certificate with the amount money earned and positive activities they achieved
- 17. The volunteer, donors, and non profit are all then sent a brief survey asking how Charity for Debt can improve the process in the future
- 18. Charity for Debt pays off the amount earned to the volunteer's student loan company
- 19. The volunteer portfolio page is archived under alumni and displayed permanently on the Charity for Debt website
